We hope you had an enjoyable National Friendship Day – and there’s no stronger friendship than the amazing bond between you and your beloved dog.
Of course, the special day is a good opportunity to reflect on the future of your four-legged friend, should something happen to you. This is where Dogs Trust can help.
Dogs Trust offers a free service to all dog-owners, called the Canine Care Card service, whereby, in the event of your death, a life-changing diagnosis, or if you move into a care home, Dogs Trust can be there to look after your dog, with a view to finding them a loving new home.
We know this can often be a great concern to some people, as their dog may be their sole companion, with family or friends unable to rehome them. However, by signing up to the free service, Dogs Trust can offer you peace of mind, should your card ever need to be activated. Your faithful friend would then be well cared for at one of Dogs Trust’s rehoming centres or with a Dogs Trust foster family, until a new forever home is found.
nIt takes just a few minutes to sign up online. So, what are you waiting for?
If you would prefer a paper version of the Canine Care Card application form, please phone 0303 003 0000 or email [email protected] with your name, address and request, and we will pop one in the post for you.
Help Secure a Future for Thousands of Dogs
Many people who join the Canine Care Card service also decide to leave a gift to Dogs Trust in their Will, as a way of saying thank you. Gifts in Wills are crucial to Dogs Trust as they account for a third of the charity’s income and help save the lives of countless dogs.
You can find out more about Leaving a gift in your Will on Dogs Trust’s website, or if you have a query, please email [email protected] or phone 0303 003 0000.

Waggily Ever After for Norman and Georgie
Four-year old Shih Tzu, Norman, and three-year old Yorkshire Terrier, Georgie, came to Dogs Trust after their previous owner sadly died.
Fortunately, their owner had signed up to the Canine Care Card – so, all of Norman’s and Georgie’s medical history, as well as their likes, dislikes and little quirks, were already known to Dogs Trust. This meant the care and love they received with the charity was seamless.
The adorable duo stayed with fantastic foster carers for five weeks, until they were lovingly adopted by their new forever family.
