Meet Rosie, our DogFest Ambassadog, she’s a total brainbox and loves to sniff out all things dog.  She loves to find out why do dogs do what they do, and how do they do it?

Do Dogs see in Colour?

People often ask if I’m colourblind.  Well, I don’t know!  I see what I see.  But I checked out some recent studies to answer this big burning human question: Are dogs colourblind?

Research suggests that dogs aren’t colourblind at all, but their vision does happen to be totally different to humans according to PetMD.  Just look at how differently dogs and humans see the world.

What Colours Can Dogs See?

  • Dogs see fewer colours than humans
  • Dogs see many more shades of blue and yellow than humans do
  • Dogs have 2 colour receptors in their eyes. Humans have 3
  • The colour red to dogs looks like a dark brownish-grey or even black – like kibble!
  • Orange and green looks somewhere in the yellow–blue range
  • Dogs aren’t able to perceive subtle changes in the brightness or shade of colour

Meet the DogFest Ambassadogs

It’s great to keep all of this in mind when you’re at DogFest and you’re buying your beloved doggo bedding or toys.  I’d suggest you choose colours that pop for dogs, blue or yellow will grab your dog’s attention best.

When you throw a piece of brown kibble onto the green lawn, dogs will see it much quicker than any human ever could. And you might find them chewing it behind their favourite big blue bush!

If you want to know my favourite colour… it’s blue! Woof!
