Does your dog come when you call their name?  Or does your dog ignore you while you’re the fool shouting their name to no avail?  If that’s you we have some fun games to teach your dog recall.  These games are also great ways to bond with your dog!

DogFest superstar, ‘Dogtor’ Adem Fehmi, is able to bring out the best in dogs.  Catch him at DogFest Harewood House this weekend where you’ll find him at the Behaviour Zone in both the morning and the afternoon sessions.  He just might train your dog as he demonstrates doggie behaviour tecniques for the crowd.  You could be heading home with a better behaved best friend!

As a special gift we’ve asked him to suggest 3 Easy Games to Teach your Dog Recall.

‘Dogtor’ Adem Fehmi’s quick games to bring out the best in your dog.

  • Game #1

The Chase Game

Throw the ball for your dog to chase.

  • Game # 2

The Find It Game – a recall game

Throw some tasty treats in the garden or in the park for your dogs to find – make sure they see your hand as you throw.

While they’re searching for their treats, go some distance off and call their name, then give them a treat when they come to you, repeating their name.

  • Game # 3

The Two Treat Game

Show your dog a treat (it must be in your dog’s eye-line) and throw it some distance off, let them run to find it.

Now add recall into the game by saying the word COME as they come back to you, and give them another treat.  Make a game of it and repeat it as many times as you wish.

Adem says: Always hold the collar first before giving the treat.  Be sure to use loads of positive reinforcement in the game.  The big trick is to make sure the sessions are FUN for your dog.
